  • The tour of the Sauzet hill towards Condillac is 15km long, with a nice difference in altitude, to be done on foot or by bike.

Ancient maxims are engraved at the bottom of the windows: “DE.LEGIER.VOVLLOIR.LONGVE.REPENTANCE.1564” (“With weak will, long repentance.”)

The old village is a maze of narrow streets leading to the Courtine, a square at the top of the hill, near the residence where the Dauphin, future king Louis XI stayed. As he was returning to Sauzet after a hunting party in the forest of Saou, he almost drowned when he crossed the Roubion to Charols.

One crosses two enclosures while going up, the second being that of the castle built around 985. The latter was already in ruins in the 17th century. Some decorative elements still cling to the old walls such as rafters painted red and two sink stones on the north side.

Opposite is the Saint-Lambert church built from 1100. It was extensively restored after the wars of religion, the date 1672 is engraved on the keystone of the entrance door.

There are three gates in the fortifications, now pierced by other openings. The wall is known as the ‘vingtain’, it was the tax that was used to maintain it. At the Portail Blanc, near the two bakeries, is the starting point of a historic route, the signs of which can be seen at random in the old streets.

  • Cold shower (A few seconds are enough)
  • Second sauna session – 10 to 15 minutes long session
  • Cold shower
  • Rest of 10 minutes – Rehydration
  • …another 1 or 2 cycles if we wish.

A sauna session can be done 2 to 3 times a week.

The rules for a good sauna session are as follows

There are rules to be followed to avoid the negative effects of high temperatures.

First of all, listen to your body. Don’t force your limits and stop the session at the slightest sign of discomfort!

For beginners: In traditional saunas, hot air tends to rise. It is therefore more comfortable to sit on the lowest benches.

Be sure to respect the alternative phases: Heat bath – Cooling – Rest.

The goal is to keep an internal temperature of 37°C, hence the sweat/cooling process.

Breathe through your mouth because breathing through your nose can burn your mucous membranes…

Take your time! If you are in a hurry, postpone your sauna session.

Avoid alcohol and heavy meals before your session…

No cell phones or electronic devices in the traditional sauna cabin… That makes sense…

You don’t do anything during a sauna session… you don’t talk, you don’t move, you don’t read. The heat mobilizes all your energy. It’s best to completely empty your mind. In Finland, a sauna session takes place in an almost religious silence.

Don’t forget to rehydrate to recover the water you have sweated. A sauna session can make you lose up to 1 litre of water!
